More About Esan Association of New England
Mission and Objectives
We hope to promote the goals of the “Declaration on Human Rights” and the “International Declaration on the Elimination of All forms of Racial Discrimination.” To deal with issues of importance to our members living in the United States, we will create the New England Igbo Association at no cost to currently registered members. The main intent of creating the New England Igbo Association is not to sever ties with Ndiigbo but rather to facilitate the attainment of specific goals with the government of the United States, provide additional opportunities for our members, and otherwise promote the aims and objectives of both associations. To achieve these objectives, we will engage in different activities depending on the laws of the host country. To avoid conflict of interest, members can maintain dual membership but will be urged to pay the annual dues. We work to cultivate and maintain good relations with members of the Nigerian community of New England, with other Esan associations, with other organizations, and with the general public. In summary, the main objectives of our association are to promote the welfare of members, provide a forum for members to discuss and address issues, and, at the appropriate time, partner with others to help the people back home.
The mission of the association is to promote and participate in all educational, scientific, cultural, economic, and civic activities that will advance the overall well-being of the Esans. Our goal is to foster respect for our culture, heritage, and language; to disseminate knowledge about the history, economics, traditions, customs, and mores of the Esans; to promote unity and cooperation among members living in diaspora and in “Esan land.” We also hope to create similar organizations in other parts of the world and to raise funds for philanthropic projects in Nigeria, particularly in Esan land. We hope to dialogue with religious and traditional leaders in Esan land with respect to their roles in promoting democracy and fighting corruption and electoral fraud.
